| Abstract |
Benzotriazoles are produced in approximately 5-6 million pounds per year in the United States. The majority are used in anticorrosion applications. Approximately 20-30% are used as UV stabilizers, many of which are 2-substituted benzotriazoles. Small amounts are used for photographic applications. Information on production, use, transport and handling, environmental fate, and toxicity are reviewed. The document contains: Physical and chemical data--Structure and properties, and chemistry); Environmental exposure factors--(Production, consumption, uses, environmental contamination potential, current handling practice and control technology, and monitoring and analysis); Health and environmental effects--(Environmental effects and biological effects); Regulations and standards--(Current regulation and concensus and similar standards). |
