Abstract The House and Senate Committees on Appropriations in their approval of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) FY92 Operating Plan directed EPA to conduct a study of the Anacostia River. The study 'should include...an analysis of the extent to which pollution in the Anacostia River is harming the Bay's ecosystem; what steps are needed to restore the Anacostia's water quality and a timeline showing when these steps could be met; potential roles for EPA in the Anacostia River clean-up and that of other federal agencies; and an inventory of activities currently underway to restore the river.'
