Abstract Measurement and monitoring research efforts are designed to anticipate environmental problems, to support regulatory actions by developing an indepth understanding of the nature and processes that impact health and the ecology, to provide innovative means of monitoring compliance with regulations, and to evaluate the effectiveness of health and environmental protection efforts through the monitoring of long-term trends. Method 0010 of SW 846 is the required test method used to show Destruction and Removal Efficiency (DRE) of Principle Organic Hazardous Constituents (POHCs) of semi-volatile (boiling point above 130 C) organic compounds. This method requires extraction and evaporation concentrating of the semi-volatile organics. The procedure, if not done properly, can result in significant loss of POHCs and, therefore, it is important to have an audit material to test the performance of laboratories making these important measurements. Two approaches for the audit material are described in the report: one which tests both the sample train recovery and analytical recovery and one which tests the analytical performance only.
