Abstract |
The current study was initiated to obtain an approximation of the optimum bed depth and flow rates necessary for maximum economic utilization of the adsorptive properties of the carbon and to examine the feasibility of regenerating the carbon for reuse by thermal reactivation or an alternative procedure. To eliminate the concentration and composition variables encountered in a real sewage effluent and because ABS was believed to by typical of the refractory organics likely to interfere with the regeneration of the spent carbon, a solution of ABS in water was selected as the effluent for the first phase of the program. In the second phase of the program a column test was made on the effluent from a secondary sewage treatment plant. |
