Abstract |
Euminal exposure of excised tracheal epithelium to Cd(N03)2 inhibited short circuit current by 50% and increased dc conductance 500%. Zn(NO3)2 reduced conductance by 24% but did not affect short circuit current. Exposure to both salts induced a slightly greater inhibition of short circuit current than Cd(NO3)2 alone but had no significant effect on conductance. Submucosal exposure to Cd(NO3)2 inhibited short circuit current and induced at least a 10- to 20-fold increase in conductance. The potency, compared to luminal exposure, was 10-fold greater. Submucosal Zn(N03)2 inhibited short circuit current and was about as potent as Cd(N03)2. Zn(N03)2 had little effect on conductance. Inhibition of short circuit current by submucosal Cd(N03)2 was additive and luminal but not submucosal, Zn protected against the increase in conductance induced by submucosal Cd. |
