Abstract Methodology is developed for the economic evaluation of environmentally acceptable brine disposal systems. Specifically, a procedure is presented for determining total unit costs of alternative systems. These are then compared in order to select the least expensive, legally-permitted disposal processes. A broad and simplified discussion of resources economics is included, and disposal mechanisms and disposal cost analyses are described. Methods are included for obtaining the necessary information for use in the analyses. A listing is made of state regulatory agencies and their roles in administering brine disposal policies.
