Abstract |
Lead concentrations in drinking water can be minimized by adjusting the pH and alkalinity. Such lead solubility controls, however, may be offset by other water treatment measures that inadvertently increase lead solubility, e.g., the adding of polyphosphate-containing products. Through the use of solubility computations, the authors conclude that, at best, the application of polyphosphates for the specific purpose of lead corrosion control entails considerable uncertainty and risk. |
