| Abstract |
A stratified sample consisting of 11 data sets from an original list of 166 CO air quality data sets in SAROAD was selected as a 'national crossection' of observed U.S. CO concentrations, along with a longitudinal group of data sets from a single air monitoring station. The adequacy of the 2-parameter lognormal probability model (LN2) was tested using these data. A special-purpose computer program was developed for calculating the parameters of the LN2 model using four different techniques: (1) direct 'method of moments'; (2) Larsen's 'method of fractiles'; (3) 'maximum likelihood estimation' (MLE) for grouped data using an MLE approximation technique; and (4) MLE for grouped data using computer optimization. |
