Abstract The emissions inventories developed for the major moving and fixed sources of pollution in the Los Angeles Basin are presented in detail. Particular emphasis was placed on developing a detailed representation of the spatial and temporal traffic distribution in the Basin, as vehicular emissions account for approximately 97% of CO, 85% of reactive hydrocarbon, and 62% of NO(x) emissions. Attention was also given to those sources which, while responsible for only a small proportion of emissions on an area-wide basis, contribute heavily to pollutant concentration levels in their own locale--airports, power plants, and refineries. Average daily emissions rates of NO(x), organic gases and CO into the atmosphere of the Los Angeles Basin are tabulated.
