Contents Notes Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and chlorinated pesticides comprise a few of the thousands of synthetic organic chemicals that have been used widely throughout the United States for nearly half a century. The report begins the long needed synthesis of nationwide trends of PCB and chlorinated pesticides contamination of U.S. coastal fish and shellfish.^It is based on the results of a nationwide search for data from published reports and unpublished records on file with various federal, state, and local agencies. The intent of the report is to provide interested readers with a general view of the abundance and distribution of existing data, how it can be reassembled to learn more about what has been happening with these chemicals in U.S. marine organisms over the past several decades, and how monitoring might be more clearly focused to allow for continued assessment of trends.
