Abstract |
The research was to determine the effects of low levels of carbon monoxide on human performance in driving-related laboratory tasks and in over-the-road vehcicle driving. Twenty-seven subjects ranging in age from 20 to 50 years participated in these experiments under conditions of 17% COHb, 11% COHb, and 'Control,' or no-administered CO. The laboratory tests measured: complex psychomotor reactions involving simultaneous performance of a primary and secondary task, dark adaptation and glare recovery, peripheral vision, and depth perception. The driving task was designed to evaluate driver visual information needs and the steering wheel movements required to keep a vehicle properly positioned within the driving lane at different speeds. |
Highlights Notes |
Discusses the effects of small amounts of carbon monoxide on human performance in driving-related tasks in the laboratory, and in vehicle driving on the road. |
