Abstract |
Adsorption on powdered activated carbon has been proven to be a feasible method for removing the bulk of the dissolved organic materials from a municipal secondary effluent. The cost of the carbon is such that it must be regenerated and reused. A transport reactor and a fluidized-bed regeneration furnace were evaluated at the Federal Water Quality Administration's pilot plant at Lebanon, Ohio, regnerating carbon from a 10-gal./min. adsorption system. The carbon was regenerated to near virgin capacity by both furnaces. Physical losses in both systems were near 15%. Operating difficulties with the transport reactor furnace led to the selection of the fluidized-bed furnace for further development. (Author) |
