Abstract Three different air sampling methods were used simultaneously to monitor for PCB emissions arising from a pilot disposal project involving electrolytic capacitors. Analytical results indicated that the primary polychlorinated biphenyl material was Aroclor 1242, and that airborne concentrations inside the building housing the grinders exceeded 5mg/cu m. The PCB air concentrations outside the building at a distance of 9 m were typically <1.0 microgram/cu m. Measurements made with one low-volume and two high-volume air samplers are compared.
