Abstract The technical and economic feasibility of particulate emission standards based on particle size was assessed. Attention was focused on standards to regulate the emission of fine particulates--particulates below 2 micrometers in size. The program was divided into four major areas of effort: (1) Analysis of approaches for regulating fine particle emissions from stationary sources; (2) definition of technological and economic requirements necessary for implementation of emission standards; (3) identification of benefits that would accrue if control procedures for fine particulates can be implemented; (4) assessment of overall feasibility of implementation of fine particle emission standards.
