| Abstract |
The effects of a few major pollutants on crabs are described. Because of their sensitivity to many forms of man-made pollution, crabs can often be used to predict adverse influences on the environment and to evaluate their effects. Crabs are viewed as having unaltered or 'normal' life histories and ecology or altered life patterns possibly influenced by pollution in changing environments. The authors discuss these two categories and present the 'normal' patterns as a set of specific vignettes that form a foundation for discussion of the observed effects of pollutants on four crab species. |
