Abstract Waterborne outbreaks occur because of inadequacies in water systems and deficiencies in their operation. Unless needed improvements are made in both public and private water systems, it is expected that a residual number of outbreaks will continue to occur in this country. The disinfection of ground water systems would be a relatively easy and simple means to reduce waterborne disease.
