Abstract |
A digital computer procedure was developed for predicting to ultimate depletion a water table aquifer in which the configuration of the base of the aquifer becomes a controlling parameter. A portion of the 'Slaton Channel', a buried valley in the Ogallala Aquifer near Slaton, Texas, was selected for modeling. A parameter adjustment procedure was developed using the steepest descent optimization for minimizing errors in simulated water levels. This procedure treated permeability and storage coefficients, as well as net withdrawals, as variables for purposes of determining simulated water levels. The model developed in Phase I of the project was applied to Parmer County, Texas, after the completion of a very comprehensive investigation and report on groundwater conditions in August, 1971. The results of this application indicate that the model is applicable to any area for which accurate net withdrawal rates in the future can be established. (Modified author abstract) |
