Abstract A modeling approach is described that will be able to predict wet and dry deposition of toxic airborne semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs) applicable on a regional scale. In principle, these compounds cycle between the aerosol or the gas phases depending primarily on their vapor pressure and the ambient temperature and aerosol particle concentration. This study outlines an approach using as its modeling framework the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (USEPA) Regional Particulate Model (RPM) which predicts size distribution and the chemical composition of secondary formed aerosol particles. Partitioning of ambient SVOCs between gas and particles based on formulations of Pankow (1993) are proposed and discussed and a requirements plan presented.
