Abstract It will be important in the future to evaluate genetically engineered PCB-degradative strains for their ability to degrade PCBs as actually found in the environment. The integration of genetic and soil studies is a logical and practical extension of important and promising research on PCB biodegradation. Thus, the authors are now in a position to exploit the potential of modern biotechnology for destroying environmental contaminants such as PCBs.
