Abstract |
The report summarizes the results of a project concerned with evaluating the impact of water and timer availability on regional economic development in the Southeast. Several alternative techniques are considered for accomplishing this objective including input-output models, economic base studies, and dynamic computer simulation models. These techniques are compared and critically evaluated in the light of the goals of the study. The impact of water availability on regional economic growth in the Southeast was found to be indirect, and it was demonstrated that water is such a small fraction of total industrial production costs that it is unlikely to be critical in plant location decisions.
