Abstract | Asefforts to protect the ChesapeakeBay have expanded, there has been agrowing awareness that the fate of theBay does not lie simply in the hands ofthe fishermen who ply its fertile waters, the industries or power plants along itsshores, or the people who make the Bayand nearby environs their home. TheBays rivers and streams are its arteriesand serve as nursery grounds for impor-tant commercial fishery stock, such aseels or blue crabs. Increasingly, it is rec-ognized that the rivers and streams thatfeed the Bay must also be clean andhealthy, if the Bay is to regain much ofits former life and productivity. |
