Abstract |
The disposal of wastes into nearshore ocean waters is increasing in importance all over the world. One of the most important criteria for evaluating a system disposing domestic or industrial wastes into nearshore waters is the amount of floatable material in the waste. The report describes in detail the progress made during the first two years of a planned three-year program aimed at the development of treatment methods which are to be oriented toward the removal of floatable material from domestic and industrial wastes before disposal of such wastes into the marine environment. It has been a special consideration during this work to develop treatment methods which will remove only the floatable material from a waste, followed by disposal of the remainder of the waste directly through a well designed and adequate outfall and diffuser system. |
