Abstract |
The purpose of the document is to address the technical and economic aspects of material recovery facility (MRF) equipment and technology in such a manner that the document may be of assistance to solid waste planners and engineers at the local community level. The document points out what technically can be done, what material specifications can be achieved, and what the different manual and mechanical materials separation and recovery approaches can cost. The handbook is designed for use primarily by engineering or other technically trained personnel who are engaged in some aspect of design, specification, purchase, or implementation of MRFs. Sources of information for the document include the design engineering community, vendors of equipment, and various studies funded by the U.S. EPA. Of course, many presently operating MRFs also served as prime sources of information. |
