Abstract |
Limestone/sludge systems are the least expensive of all flue gas desulfurization (FGD) systems currently used in the United States. Limestone is cheap and generally locally available, as is the land necessary for sludge disposal. Limestone/sludge systems require 200,000 sq m at small plants and as much as 4,000,000 sq m at large plants for sludge disposal. In other countries, limestone appears to be available in sufficient quantities to make it inexpensive, but space for sludge disposal is generally not as available as in the United States. |
