Abstract |
This project covers the solids incineration trial burn of the Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Research and Development's Mobile Incinerator System by the Environmental Emergency Response Unit (EERU) at the Kin-Buc landfill site in Edison, New Jersey. The system consists of a rotary kiln, a secondary combustion chamber, and an air pollution control train, each mounted on a heavy duty over-the-road semitrailer. The system is designed for field use to destroy/detoxify hazardous and toxic organic substances that have contaminated soil or water at spill sites or at 'orphaned' dump sites. Liquids, sludges, and contaminated debris that have been shredded or otherwise prepared for processing can be introduced into the system. |
