Abstract |
The 2.5-acre Lee Chemical site is a former water treatment plant and chemical repacking and distributing facility in Liberty, Clay County, Missouri. Land use in the area is commercial and rural. The estimated 17,000 people who reside in Liberty obtain drinking water from municiple water wells. In 1979, low levels of TCE were detected in the public water supply wells. Subsequent EPA and State investigations revealed contaminated ground water and soil. The Record of Decision (ROD) addresses the primary contaminants of concern affecting the soil and ground water are VOCs including TCE. The selected remedial action for the site includes installing an in-situ aqueous soil washing system consisting of infiltration trenches to enhance the flushing of contaminants from onsite soil to the underlying aquifer; pumping ground water to flush contaminants from the underlying aquifer to the extraction system and to control ground water movement away from the site. |
