Abstract |
This report presents recommendations and supporting rationale on a measurement methodology for portable air compressors. The methodology provides for the determination of A-weighted sound power level or the equivalent weighted sound pressure level at a reference distance. A-weighted level is used because of its correlation with community response to noise from internal combustion engine noise. It is recommended, however, that the spectra associated with the regulated source be monitored in some manner to insure that the spectra remain similar to those for which A-weighted sound level retains good correlation with community response. The methodology uses weighted sound level measurements at eight positions on a curved surface surrounding the source at a distance of one metre from the surface of the machine. |
