Abstract | Atmospheric emissions of naturally occurring radioactivity were measured from an underground zinc mine and mill. The only significant radioactive emission from the mine or mill was radon-222. An estimated 230 curies of radon-222 is released annually from the mine. The primary source of radon is believed to be the high influx of water which is pumped from the mine at the rate of 110 cubic meters per minute. |
