Abstract |
Prefilter and chlorination improvements and continuing high construction costs of filter installations have created a need for a review of the role that filtration plays in the purification of our surface water supplies. In accordance with this need the Sanitary Engineering Center, in cooperation with State Health Departments and water plants, is continuing the collection of data on the influence of high-rate and dual-media filtration and of modifications in prefiltration treatment on finished water quality. This report includes the results from a study encompassing both high-rate and dual-media filtration conducted at a 4-mgd water treatment plant located in Easley, South Carolina, during the latter half of 1963 and the first half of 1964. |
