Abstract |
The Long Prairie site, as defined by the extent of the plume of contaminated ground water, extends 2,100 feet by 1,000 feet in Long Prairie, Todd County, Minnesota. The Long Prairie River flows within 500 feet of the contaminant plume. In August and October 1983, routine municipal well monitoring by the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) indicated contamination in two of five municipal wells. The MDH ordered the two wells shut down in October 1983, and in November 1983, issued an advisory to provide bottled water for area residents. About 50 of the area's 300 private wells were affected by the groundwater contamination. The selected remedial action for the site includes: ground water pump and treatment using air stripping with discharge to the river; spill treatment using active soil venting; and ground water monitoring. |
