Abstract |
Twenty one (21) of the twenty eight (28) theoretically possible pentachlorodibenzofurans were synthesized and purified. Their retention indices were determined and were found to correlate well to those predicted using a previously developed mathematical model. Gas chromatographic/mass spectrometric (GC/MS) analysis of these compounds revealed that their electron-impact (EI) mass spectra were essentially identical with no significant variations due to positioning of the chlorines. Additional GC/MS experiments indicated that higher electron energies (70 eV as opposed to lower energies) were more suitable for analysis of these compounds due to higher molecular and fragment ion intensities. |
