Abstract |
This conference took up the debate of marketplace competition in the areas of energy and the environment. In particular, the deregulation of the electric utility industry was of special concern considering Illinois` major commitment to the nuclear option. The conference program posed such questions as: what will be the economic impact of increased competition between electric power generators; how will the merger of small electric companies into large, interstate utilities affect the market sectors? Other issues of concern focused on the substantial growth of the natural gas sector; and environmental topics including SO2 emissions trading, influence of free markets on environmental regulation, the future for renewables, and alternative transportation vehicles. The proceedings contain 16 papers. Individual papers indexed separately for inclusion in the Energy Science and Technology Database. |
