The initial charge to the health program analysis group--air pollution was to study all aspects of the sources and control of air pollution. In that charge, emphasis was to be placed on determining the relative effectiveness of the various pollution control techniques and upon developing optimum control strategies. The analytical approach developed in the course of the study is a form of simulation, relying heavily upon a computerized meteorological model to translate pollutant emission data into ground-level concentration predictions. With this meteorological model, it is possible to simulate the improvement in air quality resulting from various combinations of control techniques. |
