Abstract |
Evaluates two analytical methods and sampling schemes for their effectiveness to remove air-entrainable asbestos from Columbus East High School in Columbus, Indiana. These methods were phase contrast microscopy (PCM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The sampling schemes included a static method and an aggressive one using a leaf blower. Study results indicate that building abatement did meet the PCM specifications, however, the TEM results revealed airborne asbestos concentrations averging four times outdoor levels. As a result of the study, TEM coupled with aggressive sampling is the currently recommended method of choice for postabatement clearance. |
