Abstract |
Scientists from Lithuania and the United States have been involved in a joint research program since 1988 on the fate and effects of pollutants in the environment. Research under this cooperative effort has developed in five technical areas: (1) Identification of organic and inorganic chemical pollutants and monitoring of chemical and biological parameters in Lithuanian surface and ground waters: (2) Ecological and water quality modeling, including evaluation of assumptions for modeling fate and effects of pollutants; (3) Measurement of transformation and equilibrium constants for predicting fate of pollutants; (4) Investigation of microbiological transformation processes; (5) Toxicity testing of identified pollutants in biological species indigenous to the Baltic Republics. |
