The document has been prepared to provide state and local governments, non-government entities and others in air pollution control programs with summaries of the statutory, organizational and functional means adopted by the states, territories and possessions of the United States to achieve environmental goals in the area of air pollution control. In format, the compendium follows the uniform configuration of the ten Federal regions. The compendium identifies the principal policy-making and regulatory organizations responsible for air pollution controlling each state, the District of Columbia, Guam, American Samoa, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. The organizational structure of these agencies and their relationship to other state agencies are described diagrammatically. The offical state air pollution control agency with authority to accept and administer Federal funds and grants is identified. General statutory references to the States' basic air pollution control laws are proveded. In addition, specific references to particular powers and authorities are presented in tabular form. |
