Abstract |
A life-cycle study on zebra fish with Triazole Derivative was conducted by the Laboratory for Wildlife- and Fish Toxicology of Experimental Toxicology and Ecology, BASF Aktiengesellschaft, 67056 Ludwigshafen, Germany, for a period of approx. 8 months. The protocol was based on the US- EPA Test Guidelines for the Fish Life-Cycle Toxicity test. The study was performed under flow- through, aerated conditions with 4 concentrations of the test substance and a dilution water control. The test was started with the exposure of approx. 7-month old adult fish (FO-generation), in groups of 10 male plus 10 female fish per replicate and 4 replicates per test concentration or control group. The parent fish were supplied by Zierfisch Center Kickner, Ludwigshafen, Germany. The FO-generation was exposed over approx. 2 months until the eggs for the next generation (F1-generation) were collected, and over an additional time period of approx. 1 month until sacrifice. The number of eggs laid and the fertilization rate was recorded on workdays during a 2-week period starting about 3 weeks after start of exposure. During the rest of the exposure period, the egg numbers were estimated. The Fi-generation was exposed over the whole life cycle. It was started with 4 replicates per concentration or control group with 4 x 50 freshly fertilized eggs each. After 36 days, the number was reduced to a maximum of 25 juveniles per replicate. The observation of egg-laying was started approx. 10 weeks post hatch (start of reproduction). Exact numbers of eggs laid and fertilized eggs were recorded on workdays for a 2-week period starting 13 weeks post hatch. Eggs for the next generation (F2-generation) were collected approx. 20 weeks post hatch of the F1-generation. The Fl- generation was sacrificed approx. 24 weeks post hatch. The F2-generation was exposed from the egg stage until 30 days after the majority of larvae had hatched. |
