Abstract |
The report is focused on the presentation of the principal findings of the study as they relate to requirements for action to control pollution. It emphasizes that pollution does exist in the Willamette River system, that pulp and paper mills that have been subject to less stringent waste control requirements than municipalities and other sources of waste are the major causes of pollution, that pollution abatement will require immediate improvements in the level of waste reduction achieved in the Willamette River system, and that the continuing control of pollution will impose demands for action well into the future upon the people and industries of the Willamette River Basin, as well as upon the State and Federal agencies that serve them. |
