Abstract | This report summarizes the results of the EPA Region 10 Superfund Program's evaluation of various approaches for deriving an effects-based screening value for tributyltin (TBT) in marine sediments. The approaches that were evaluated included identification of existing regulatory standards, calculation of an apparent effect threshold value, calculation of effects ranges, sediment tissue partitioning, and sediment-water partitioning. Using the sediment-water partitioning approach, EPA calculated a range of carbon normalized TBT sediment screening values to evaluate historical TBT sediment data collected at Superfund sites. The report summarizes information on TBT that is currently available in the literature, including all chronic and acute water quality effects data (test species, endpoints, and citations). Recommendations for future work are also identified. |
