Abstract |
The report reviews the water pollution problems in the metropolitan New York region, which includes the drainage basins of all streams entering the Hudson River south of the southern boundaries of Orange and Putnam Counties; entering and including Raritan, Newark and New York Bays; and entering the north side of Long Island Sound west of the Housatonic River Basin. The Region lies chiefly in New Jersey and New York, but includes a small portion of Connecticut. The discharge of waste from municipalities, industries and numerous other sources has degraded water quality and prevents full utilization of this natural resource throughout the region. The purpose of the report is to delineate the actions which should be undertaken immediately to prevent further degradation and to provide enhancement of these waters. |
