Abstract |
The preliminary results of studies and investigations by the Environmental Protection Agency on devices, systems, incentives, policies, and other methods of reducing the total flow of sewage including, but not limited to, unnecessary water consumption in order to reduce the requirements for, and the costs of, sewage and wastewater treatment systems are reported to the Congress. The major flow reduction topics discussed in the report are (1) infiltration/inflow, (2) domestic wastewater, (3) industrial wastewater, and (4) Environmental Protection Agency programs related to wastewater flow reduction. The investigations in these areas revealed potentials for reductions in water consumption and wastewater flows. |
