Abstract |
A regulatory proposal pertaining to enforcement of the existing ammonia water quality standard was evaluated regarding the potential economic impact on society and the environment. The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) presented regulation exceptions due to technological and economic hardships. The IEPA Proposed modification pertains to those areas of small or intermittent streams which are ammonia water quality limited, exempting small dischargers and obtaining a two-year delay for larger dischargers in their installation of nitrification facilities with an additional two years for technological development. |
