Abstract | The symposium on the control and disposal of cotton-ginning wastes, held in Dallas, Texas, in May 1966, was jointly sponsored by the Division of Air Pollution, Public Health Service, U. S. Department of Health, Education, and Welfare, and the Agricultural Engineering Research Division, Agricultural Research Service, U. S. Department of Agriculture. The proceedings contain information on the following subjects: the roles of local, state, and Federal agencies in controlling air pollution; the roles of the state extension's gin and mechanization specialists; methods employed in harvesting cotton; operations and characteristics of the cotton gin; methods of collecting seed cotton trash; current gin trash disposal practices; methods of collecting lint cotton trash; air pollution study of cotton gins in Texas; defoliants and pesticides; trash collection and disposal system; design and operation of the in-line filter; considerations for determining acceptable ambient and source concentrations for particulates from cotton gins; and recommendations for needed research and development.
