Abstract |
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) have issued a final Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) for dissolved cadmium, lead, and zinc in surface waters of the Coeur d'Alene Basin. The TMDL contains individual wasteload allocations for mining and municipal wastewater facilities and gross allocations for cleanup of contamination from historic mining activity. The scope of the proposed TMDL includes waters of the South Fork Coeur d'Alene River and tributaries, mainstem Coeur d'Alene River, Coeur d'Alene Lake, and Spokane River above the Idaho-Washington border. EPA and DEQ have endeavored to collect, review, and respond to the comments and information the authors received during the public comment period. The final TMDL package includes copies of the final TMDL, a revised Technical Support Document, and a Response to Comments document. In addition, the authors have enclosed a fact sheet that highlights information generated during the public process that affected final decisions on the TMDL. |
