Abstract |
The report presents the results of a pilot study in the State of New Jersey to identify the availability and usefulness of existing ground-water data to support the use of these indicators. EPA chose New Jersey for this pilot study for three reasons: (1) the state is considered to be ground-water data 'rich', (2) the state has a high level of regulatory development, (3) and over one-half of the State population relies on ground water for drinking water. Five ground-water quality indicators were investigated in this pilot study: Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) exceedances in ground-water based public drinking water supplies; On-site and Off-site contamination at hazardous waste sites; Nitrate concentration in ground water; Volatile organic compound (VOC) concentrations in ground water; and Pesticide use. |
