Abstract | About 30 years ago, the authors became conscious as a nation that our local environments were deteriorating: rivers, lakes, and estuaries were dirty, our city air was unhealthy to breathe, and the water is unsafe to drink. They looked at the basic research EPA is currently conducting and asked what changes would be needed to ensure that they will have the fundamental scientific information needed to formulate solutions to future environmental problems. |
