Abstract
This document provides an evaluation of the performance of the Bergmann USA Soil/Sediment Washing System and its applicability for the treatment of soils or sediments contaminated with organic and/or inorganic compounds. Both the technical and economic aspects of the technology were examined. A demonstration of the Bergman USA unit was conducted under the Superfund Innovative Technology Evaluation Program at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Confined Disposal Facility in the Saginaw Bay of Lake Huron. Operational data, along with sampling and analysis information, were carefully compiled establish a data base against which other available data, as well as the vendor's claims for the technology, have been compared and evaluated. Conclusions concerning the applications at other sites with different contaminants and soil types were drawn.
