Abstract | The decision document presents the selected remedy for Operable Unit 4 (OU4), Site-wide groundwater at the Sand Creek Industrial Superfund Site in Commerce City, Colorado. The Sand Creek Industrial Superfund Site has an extensive history of industrial use, including pesticide manufacturing, petroleum refining, acidic waste disposal, municipul landfilling, and chemical storage and distribution. OU4 addresses groundwater underlying the Site and is contaminated with volatile organic compounds (VOCs), semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs), pesticides, and metals. The remedy selected for OU4 will minimize direct contact with and ingestion of groundwater underlying the Site and prevents further offsite migration of contaminants in excess of federal and state groundwater standards. Municipal water for the area surrounding OU4 is supplied by the South Adams County Water and Sanitation District (SACWSD) and the Denver Water Department (DWD). Water supplied by the DWD is obtained primarily from surface-water sources located outside of the Site area. Residents near the OU4 area are not currently using contaminated groundwater for domestic purposes. |
