Abstract |
This decision document changes a component of the selected remedial action for the West Harbor Operable Unit (West Harbor) of the Wyckoff/Eagle Harbor Superfund site (Site). The Record of Decision (ROD) for this operable unit, signed on September 29, 1992, (PB93-964618), required removal and appropriate upland disposal of 'mercury hot spot' sediments, which contain concentrations of mercury greater than or equal to 5 mg/kg. This amendment to the ROD (ROD Amendment) will allow containment most of the mercury hot spot sediments in an on-site nearshore confined disposal facility (CDF) to be constructed on intertidal lands owned by the State of Washington Department of Transportation (WSDOT). In addition, the ROD required an investigation of potential continuing contaminant sources and the implementation of any source controls necessary to protect sediment quality and surface water quality. |
