Contents Notes | The poster's central panel depicts an Incan king, queen and courier; the queen and courier are each holding a "quipu," a logical-numerical data device made of cords, using knots to record data in a base 10 system. Columns on outer left and right depict knot definitions and code, cord numerals, paired numerals, "quipu" parts, and categorical and hierarchical display of data. The text box at the bottom gives a brief description of the Incan empire, and a detailed explanation of the "quipu" function and use, referring to the examples given in the columns. |
